Mrs Caroline Johnstone, BA, CA

Caroline joined The University of Manchester’s Board of Governors in 2020 and is also Chair of the Finance Committee.

Caroline has over 40 years’ experience working with large global organisations - her experience includes delivering value from M&A, turnaround, culture change and cost optimisation.

Caroline is currently Chair of Synthomer plc. She is also a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Employee Engagement Committee of Spirax-Sarco Engineering plc and is a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee of Shepherd Building Group Limited, a family-owned private company that owns Portakabin Limited.

Caroline is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Previous roles include being a Board Member of the University of Leeds (2010 to 2019) and of Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (2013 to 2018). During 30 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, she sat on the board of PwC UK Assurance, with responsibility for all people matters.
