Professor Fiona Smyth, PhD is Vice Dean for Teaching, Learning and Students and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of ManchesterShe is a Professor of Geography having completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Bristol and PhD at the Victoria University of Manchester. 

Fiona was previously Head of Department for Geography (2008-11), Undergraduate Director of Teaching and Learning for the School of Environment and Development (2004-8) and Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught Director of Teaching and Learning for the School of Environment, Education and Development(2011-14). Fiona was appointed as Vice Dean for Teaching Learning and Students in the Faculty of Humanities in 2014 and Deputy Dean of the Faculty in 2017. 

Fiona was promoted to Chair on the Teaching and Scholarship routeShe has led on work for the University on a range of issues including the Ethical Grand Challenges, International Mobility of Students, Sexual Violence and various Policy DevelopmentsIn Geography, she was heavily involved with innovations in teaching, learning and assessment, curriculum reform and fieldwork. 

Fiona is a member of the Royal Geographical Society.
