Volunteer of the Year awards 2017
Many of our students are involved in a wide range of activities alongside their studies. Some of these were celebrated at the annual University Volunteer of the Year awards on 11 May 2017.
The awards recognised and celebrated volunteering taking place across the University with projects taking place locally, nationally and internationally including in Pakistan, Philippines, Armenia, USA and Zimbabwe. The volunteering was wide-ranging including within health, with children and vulnerable adults, and community cohesion projects.
Students from schools from all Faculties were recognised at the awards for projects including:
- The creation of a new charity to help orphaned children in Romania
- Running outreach sports sessions in local communities in Moss Side and Levenshulme
- Trialling a new project to support a shelter to support men transitioning between the streets and their own accommodation
As well as student projects staff and alumni volunteers were also commended for their volunteering over the past year.
