Manchester power electronics researcher receives APEC 2026 Best Presentation Award
University of Manchester researcher Cheng Zhang has received an APEC 2026 Best Presentation Award for his work on innovative high-frequency power electronics technology.
Cheng Zhang, Senior Lecturer in Power Electronics at The University of Manchester, has received the APEC 2026 Best Presentation Award for his presentation, “A Self-Triggering ZVS Gate Drive for Multi-MHz Class-D Inverters”.
The presentation was delivered during the “T40 – DC-DC Converter Applications” session at the 2026 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC).
The award recognises the quality, clarity and technical contribution of Cheng’s presentation, as well as the innovation and potential impact of the research.
His work focuses on a self-triggering zero-voltage switching (ZVS) gate-drive circuit for multi-megahertz Class-D inverters.
The technology forms part of his wider research into high-switching-frequency power converters and advanced power electronics applications.
The recognition highlights the international reach of Cheng’s research and the University’s contribution to advances in power electronics.
It also brings wider attention to the award-winning circuit technology, increasing its visibility among researchers and industry specialists and supporting its potential application across high‑frequency power electronics applications.
