Research partnerships with business, public sector and charitable organisations

Our extensive track record of pioneering research collaborations range from consultancy projects and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships through to major international alliances.

We work with businesses of all sizes, not-for-profit organisations, and regional and national government.

The University is recognised as the partner of choice for many large corporations including AstraZeneca and Siemens. These partnerships span different disciplines and are governed by framework agreements covering research, recruitment and PhD training.

We also build and grow non-commercial research partnerships through our public engagement, civic engagement, creative engagement and Policy@Manchester activities as part of our commitment to making a positive research impact.

Intellectual property

Commercialisation and exploitation of our intellectual property (IP) is a fundamental part of our research culture. We have exemplary success rates in the incubation of spin-out companies and of the transfer of intellectual property through licensing.

The University of Manchester Innovation Factory works with academic and student inventors to take their world-changing ideas and technologies and commericalise the University’s diverse portfolio of intellectual property. In 2021 we launched Northern Gritstone, an investment partnership between the Universities of Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield to drive enterprise activities across the North of England. You can follow our IP commercialisation services and activities on Twitter (@putideastowork) or by email contact@uominnovationfactory.com.
