Our donor promise

So much of our work would not be possible without our supporters.

Your help has propelled our pioneering research forwards in areas such as cancer, dementia and addressing global inequalities. What’s more, without your donations, students from disadvantaged backgrounds might never get the opportunity to fulfil their potential by gaining a world-class degree.

We are grateful for your support, and we want to give you something in return. We want your experience of giving to The University of Manchester to be a positive one, and that’s why we want to make a special commitment to you.

Our promise to you

1. We will treat you with respect

Anyone who takes a donation from you on behalf of The University of Manchester will be understanding and respectful

2. You decide where your gift will go

Every penny of your donation will go towards the area you wish to support. This is because our running costs are funded centrally by the University. We will always handle your gift responsibly and in a way that is most effective for the beneficiary. If you choose to let us decide where your money can be best used, we will spend your money wisely, ensuring it goes to the area in greatest need.

3. We will update you on the impact of your gift

You will receive regular updates on how your gift is being used and the impact it has had. All of our fundraising communications will be honest, truthful and will comply with the law.

4. We will be responsible with your data

We promise to store your personal details safely and securely, and we will never sell, trade or swap your data with third parties. Your confidentiality will be respected at all times. We will comply with the law relating to fundraising and the use of personal data in line with all relevant data protection legislation.

5. We will respect your wishes

If you tell us that you do not want to be contacted by the University’s Development and Alumni Relations team, we will act on your wishes. We will follow guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) so that phone calls or email stop within 28 days and postal communications within two months.

6. We will be available if you need to talk

We are committed to looking after our donors. If you have any questions about your gift or would like to share your feedback, please contact us. If you have a concern or complaint about our fundraising activity, please contact our fundraising department by either telephoning 0161 306 3066 or emailing supporters@manchester.ac.uk.

This promise will evolve as we listen to you, our donors.
