Library opening hours and service availability over the summer vacation

Read about how Library sites and services will operate from Saturday, 12 June to Sunday, 12 September 2021.

Available study spaces

From Saturday, 12 June to Sunday, 12 September 2021, you will be able to access study spaces at the following Library sites:

  • Alan Gilbert Learning Commons (9am to 8pm, Monday to Friday; 9am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday)
  • Main Library (9am to 8pm, Monday to Friday; 9am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday)
  • Eddie Davies Library (open to AMBS students only when the AMBS building is open; not staffed by Library staff).

You do not need to book a study space over the summer vacation. Spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Closed Library sites

The following Library sites and study spaces will be closed from Saturday, 12 June until Sunday, 12 September 2021:

  • Art and Archaeology Library
  • Braddick Library
  • Joule Library
  • Kantorowich Library
  • Lenagan Library
  • Stopford Library

Book returns and renewals

If you are graduating, please return your books to the Library before leaving Manchester if you can. Books can be returned at the book return bin in the Main Library entrance. If you will not be able to return your books, contact the Library team via Library Chat.

If you are returning next year, your books will be automatically renewed until June 2022.

Click and Collect

You can use the Click and Collect service to access physical resources from all closed Library sites.  Find out more:

Please note that Click and Collect orders will not be available from Kantorowich Library from Monday, 14 June to Friday, 9 July 2021 due to maintenance work.

The John Rylands Research Institute and Library

If you are staying in Manchester over the summer and would like to visit the Rylands, you can book a timed ticketed slot to explore the building and visit our new exhibition, Manchester’s Guardian.
