She obtained her masters qualification at the University of salford after completing her first degree at The University of Manchester. Her Nursing and Midwifery qualifications were obtained in Mancheter Royal Eye Hospital; Manchester Royal Infirmary and  Tameside Midwifery Unit. Mary completed her Clinical teaching and Lecturing qualifications in Salford and Huddersfied.


Mary is a Senior Lecturer working in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. Her primary interest is Ophhthalmic Nursing but she also has interest in Management. She has responsibility for leading Ophthalmic Care modules as part of Continuing Professional Development programme as well as master's level Glaucoma Modules. Mary is an active member of the RCN Ophthalmic Nursing Forum Committee, a life member or IONA and is also a Trustee for the  IGA (International Glaucoma Association). She is also on the editorial board of the RNIB, NB Magazine. Mary was on the editorial board of the Ophthalmic Nursing journal. She is a reviewer for for the British Journal of Nursing; and Nursing Standard. She has published numerous articles in specialist and general nursing publications. Mary is the lead author of an ophthalmic nursing textbook and has contributed to chapters and content in other textbooks.


Mary's primary teaching is in relation to Ophthalmic Care and also Management.
