Overview
As more and more companies gain a global reach, managing cultural differences and workforce diversity is becoming increasingly important for organizational performance. Introducing key aspects of international organizational behaviour and international human resource management, this course encourages students to explore and analyse cross-country variation in people management practices. It seeks to expand the discussion on manging cross-cultural differences and workforce diversity to create competitive advantage.
Pre/co-requisites
Aims
To introduce students to the key aspects of international organizational behaviour and international human resource management.
• To learn of the key aspects of cross-cultural differences and workforce diversity, and to evaluate their respective implications for managing human behaviour and performance effectively.
• To introduce and discuss the most relevant analytical frameworks in international organizational behaviour and international human resource management, with a special focus on key theoretical and empirical academic publications as well as available comparative datasets.
• To enable students to analyse cross-country variation in management policies and practices and to draw practically-relevant conclusions for managing cross-cultural differences and workforce diversity in domestic and/or multinational companies.

- Informal advice and discussion during the lecture and seminar.
- Responses to student emails and questions from a member of staff including feedback provided to a group via an online discussion forum.
- Written and/or verbal comments on assessed or non-assessed coursework.
- Written and/or verbal comments after students have given a group or individual presentation.
Recommended reading
There is no required single textbook for this course. A comprehensive reading list including recent and mainly empirical journal articles will be provided with the full course outline. Students are required to read extensively from various sources such as academic journals and books, including:
