Students carry out an individual project of about four month's duration in an area related to the preceding taught programme Units.

The aim of this module is to carry out a substantial piece of research work in a specific technological area and report on this work in the form of a Dissertation.

Knowledge and understanding
Students will be able to clearly express the aim and objectives of their project and will be able to demonstrate their understanding of a particular area of knowledge related to the Dissertation project and of the range of methods and techniques used in the project.
Intellectual skills
Evaluate and competently apply a range of techniques and methods needed to achieve the aim and objectives of a project.
Present evidence of some level of originality and use of initiative.
To critically assess published literature and evaluate the results of a research programme and critically assess the results of the Dissertation project in relation to current knowledge.

Prepare and deliver a satisfactory oral presentation, supported with visual aids, of research work carried out, and give adequate verbal answers to questions.
Produce a research document of adequate volume and quality in a limited timescale.
