Daniela Caselli

Daniela Caselli is Professor of Modern Literature in the School of Arts, Histories and Culture.

Her research brings together twentieth-century literary studies and modern languages, medieval literature, and critical theory (especially gender and sexuality studies). Her philological and archival discoveries have led to the development of new comparative methods to understand how literary traditions develop.

She was President of the Samuel Beckett Society between 2017 and 2021. She is the author of three monographs and editor of Beckett and Nothing (open access). She sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Beckett Studies. She is a founder member of the British Association for Modernist Studies and a member of the Centre for the Study of Sexuality and Culture. She has supervised to completion twenty-one doctoral students.

She has expertise in governance at local, national, and international level with a focus on research and postgraduate research. She has been Research Director for English, American Studies and Creative Writing, REF Co-ordinator (UoA 27), PGR Director, Deputy Head of Department, NWCDTP Pathway Representative, AHRC Peer Review College Member, External Assessor for Queen Mary’s Doctoral College (UoL), the Flemish Research Foundation, and the Academy of Finland.

Her focus is on keeping issues of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, disability, and class inequalities at the centre of effective leadership practices.
She joined Senate in 2021.
