Requirements of the role
As a member of the General Assembly, you’ll have an important and unique role, providing a link between the University and our community as we plan and deliver activities in our city and beyond.
While the role is not a formal governance position – ultimate responsibility for strategic direction and overview sits with our Board of Governors – there are some formal responsibilities that come with membership.
However, the greatest value you will bring is your wisdom. The understanding of your sector and sensitivity towards society’s needs will be a critical lens through which we will examine our University’s plans and activities.
Members’ responsibilities
The main purpose of the Assembly is to act as a two-way channel of communication. It allows the University to presents its achievements to its broader constituencies, but also to receive feedback and advice on matters relating to University business.
Time commitment
The Assembly meets formally twice a year. However, as we embark on the priorities within our strategic plan, we intend to offer a range of voluntary, more intimate and focused sessions, where we can explore these plans in more depth with members.
Appointment term
Assembly members are typically appointed for an initial three-year term.
