Tors Award Winners Announced
Each year, the Tors Award is awarded to one or two Pre-sessional tutors in recognition of the qualities demonstrated by Tors Squires.
This year, the award was presented to Marina Mogli and Adriana Bocu, Tutors on the 10-week and 6-week Pre-sessional course. The award allows funding for these tutors to attend an EAP conference of their choice.
The Tors Award celebrates the contribution and strength of Tors Squires, who worked as an English Language Tutor in UCAE from 2008 to 2017 before moving to Spain with her husband and children. Sadly, she was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly afterwards and passed away at the end of 2019.
Tors is remembered fondly for her warmth, positivity and the kindness she showed to everyone around her. Her belief in the importance of "little acts of kindness" left a lasting impression on colleagues and students alike.
Created in her memory, the Tors Award celebrates these qualities by recognising Pre-sessional tutors who demonstrate exceptional kindness, generosity and support for colleagues during the busy and often demanding Pre-sessional period.
The award gives colleagues from across UCAE an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution of members of the Pre-sessional teaching team. Nominations are reviewed by a small representative panel, chaired by Rob Marks, Senior Co-ordinator of Pre-sessional Courses, who together select the recipient.
