Make a lasting impact on local schools
Our charity partner, Governors for Schools, connects skilled professionals with schools in need of diverse expertise. As a School Governor, you’ll gain board-level experience, develop strategic leadership skills and make a meaningful difference in young peoples’ education.
How you'll benefit
- make an impact: help shape the education of hundreds, even thousands, of children;
- gain professional skills: improve strategic planning, negotiation and leadership skills;
- boost your confidence: sharpen and develop decision-making skills at board-level.
What you'll do
Governors work strategically, supporting and challenging the headteacher by:
- asking key questions to support high standards;
- reviewing data to track progress;
- overseeing the school’s financial performance, ensuring money is well spent;
- offering support and expertise in areas beyond teaching.
How it fits around you
Being a Governor is flexible and fits around your day job. Expect to spend around seven hours a month preparing for and attending meetings, visiting the school and occasionally joining hiring or disciplinary panels.
While it’s a commitment, its also a highly rewarding experience, both personally and professionally.
