2020 MathsBombe competition opens

The 2020 MathsBombe competition opens today (Wednesday, 29 January) at 4pm!

Run by the Department of Mathematics, MathsBombe is an online competition in which a new mathematical puzzle set is released every fortnight. It is aimed at students up to Year 13 (England and Scotland), S6 (Scotland), and Year 14 (Northern Ireland).

The puzzles are fun and quirky, and cover the full spectrum of mathematics. They will not, however, be directly related to the A-level syllabus, and unlike with problems in the UKMT, for example, students will be required to use their problem-solving skills and encouraged to 'think outside the box'.

There are prizes for the first team to submit the correct answer for each puzzle, while three teams drawn randomly from all the correct solutions will receive 'spot-prizes' every fortnight.

MathsBombe is supported by the Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw Trust.

More details, including how to register, can be found on the MathsBombe website.
