6 Fully Funded Master's Scholarships Announced for African Students

The Global Development Institute Merit Awards provide six full scholarships for academically excellent professionals studying a GDI campus-based master’s course commencing in September 2018. The scholarship covers the tuition fees, living expenses, flights to the UK and visas.

From our origins as a training centre for South East Asian civil servants 60 years ago, to our current status as the largest dedicated development research and teaching institute in Europe, a diverse student body has always been central to the Global Development Institute.

To support and enhance this diversity, for the next academic year we’re able to offer six fully funded scholarships for our master’s programmes in a wide range of disciplines for resident citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania or Zambia, who have not previously studied outside Africa

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• be a resident citizen of Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania or Zambia, and have not previously studied outside Africa;
• Hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum classification of second class honours upper division (2:1) or its international equivalent, and one of the following English tests:

- an overall score of 6.5 in IELTS, with 6.5 in writing and no other subsections below 6.0; or

- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), with a C in English; or

- Tanzanian National Examination, with a C in English;

- General Certificate of Education (issued by the Examinations Council of Zambia), with a 6 in English.

• have at least three years' relevant post-graduation work experience (this does not include unpaid internships or voluntary work);
• have a clear idea how studying in Manchester will benefit both your career and the wider community.
