Greater Manchester Ageing Hub celebrates UN International Day of Older Persons

The Greater Manchester Ageing Hub marked the UN’s International Day of Older Persons on 1 October 2019, celebrating ‘the journey to age equality’.

The Hub set out a number of key objectives in light of this event and its theme, starting with the celebration of later life and being age proud, to create the new, positive narrative on ageing; to challenge ageism and the way people talk about ageing, recognising the opportunities of an ageing population; reinforcing its commitment to making Greater Manchester a great place to grow old; and promoting the positive work going on across Greater Manchester in response to the opportunities and challenges of an ageing population, sharing messaging from partners and highlighting its joined-up and strategic approach.

From 1 October various organisations and councils in and around Greater Manchester held ageing-related events and activities celebrating the International Day of Older Persons. The University of Manchester marked this with Manchester Museum announcing £250,000 funding from the Baring Foundation for national centre for creative ageing.
