Maths professor collects LMS Prize

William Parnell, Professor of Applied Mathematics in The University of Manchester's Department of Mathematics, has received a Whitehead Prize at the London Mathematical Society (LMS) Annual General Meeting.

Professor Parnell was awarded the prize for his highly novel and extensive research contributions in the fields of acoustic and elastodynamic metamaterials and theoretical solid mechanics. He was also recognised for excellence in the promotion of mathematics in industry.

The event took place on 29 November 2019 at Goodenough College, and Professor Parnell - pictured above with LMS President Professor Caroline Series - was one of a number of 2019 LMS Prize winners.
