Michael Wood appointed President of Chinese relations group SACU

Michael Wood, the renowned historian, broadcaster and filmmaker, has been appointed President of SACU, the Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding.

Founded in 1965, SACU promotes good relations between the people of China and the UK, with the Chinese Ambassador Liu Xiaoming saying at the organisation’s 50th anniversary that the society has the mandate to promote “the lofty cause of bridging gaps and strengthening bonds”.

Professor of Public History at The University of Manchester’s School of Arts, Languages and Cultures, Michael’s reputation as a historian and filmmaker with a depth of knowledge of Chinese culture makes him a good match for SACU, which values history and media in its mission.

2020 will be a busy year for the professor, who is publishing his book ‘The Story of China’ later this tear, while he has recently co-produced a ‘road movie in the footsteps of Du Fu’, the Chinese Tang Dynasty poet, for CCTV and the BBC.

Michael Wood’s appointment comes as Chine celebrates the new Year of the Rat, a symbol for wealth and surplus.
