New Heads of Alliance Manchester Business School and School of Social Sciences announced

Ken McPhail

Following a rigorous selection process, two new Heads of School have been appointed in the University of Manchester’s Faculty of Humanities. 

Professor Ken McPhail has been appointed as Vice-Dean and Head of Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS). Ken, who is Professor of Accounting in AMBS, will move to his new role on 1 August 2023, as current Head of AMBS Professor Fiona Devine becomes Vice-President and Dean of Humanities. 

Ken has previously held positions as Director of Research and Deputy Head of School in AMBS and, prior to this, was Vice-Dean for Social Responsibility in the Faculty of Humanities. 

Claire Alexander

Meanwhile, Professor Claire Alexander has been appointed as Vice-Dean and Head of the School of Social Sciences (SoSS), taking over from Professor Brian Heaphy. 

Currently Professor of Sociology in SoSS, Claire is Associate Director of the Centre on the Dynamics of Ethnicity. She has previously been School Director of Social Responsibility, School Research Director, and an elected member of the University Senate and Board of Governors. She will also take up her new position on 1 August 2023.
