Professor Elvira Uyarra appointed as Executive Director of the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research

We are delighted to officially announce that Professor Elvira Uyarra has been appointed as the Executive Director of the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research (MIOIR).

Elvira Uyarra 2

Professor Uyarra will follow in the footsteps of Professor Jonatan Pinkse, who has led MIOIR for the last 3 years and will finish his term as executive director on 31st July 2022 to take a well-deserved study leave. Prof Pinkse will remain an active member of Manchester Institute of Innovation Research.

Elvira Uyarra’s research and teaching focuses on innovation and technology management and policy, especially regional innovation policy and the geography of innovation. She is interested in the dynamics of science and technology and how that leads to industrial, geographical and societal change. She has published on the conceptualisation of “innovation systems” (particularly regional innovation systems), innovation policy (policy rationales, multi-level governance, policy dynamics and the idea of the “policy mix”), the role of universities on regional innovation and entrepreneurship, and so-called “demand-side” innovation (and in particular the use of public procurement).

The Institute has a 50+ year history and global reputation, and growing strengths in important areas such as sustainability, emerging technologies, and digital innovation. I look forward to this role and to working with AMBS colleagues and colleagues across the university to help deliver research with impact.

Dr. Elvira Uyarra, Director of the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research (MIoIR)
