Rory Gleeson shortlisted for BBC National Short Story Award

Rory Gleeson – both a graduate of the MA in Creative Writing and a former Writer Fellow of the Centre for New Writing – has been shortlisted for the prestigious BBC National Short Story Award.

The 16th BBC National Short Story Award announced its shortlisted candidates on 10 September 2021, with lockdown-influenced themes of kindness, memory, loss and longing at the forefront of the chosen five stories.

Dublin-born novelist, playwright and screenwriter Gleeson impressed the judges with his short story, ‘The Body Audit’. Along with the four other shortlisted stories, ‘The Body Audit’ will be broadcast on Radio 4 and BBC Sounds and published in an anthology produced by Comma Press.

The 2021 winner will be announced live on BBC Radio 4 on 19 October 2021.
