University secures funding from Research England to ‘Enhance our Research Culture’

The Library has been allocated £600,000 of this funding to support its Open Research Programme, emphasising the University's commitment to fostering a positive research culture through open research.

As a key part of the Library’s Imagine2030 vision, significant progress has been made to promote transparency and accessibility in research. Last April, the Office for Open Research (OOR) was launched and, since its inception, has introduced the Open Research Accelerator Fund, showcased open research case studies, and developed a range of projects under the Strategic Open Research Action Plan.

The additional funding will accelerate the growth of open research by supporting further initiatives over the next three years. One example is the recruitment of five Open Research Fellows who will play a vital role in shaping the direction of the programme by providing academic expertise. Their diverse perspectives and experiences will be invaluable as the Library continues to work towards the goal of fostering a culture of open research at The University of Manchester.

How will the funding be used?

The funding will also be used to create a new position to support a project on open research skills training. Additionally, it will be used to subscribe to systems to help researchers share their open research outputs sustainably and to produce more animations and case study videos for the OOR website.

In short, this funding will significantly consolidate the OOR efforts to advance the Library’s open research programme and make meaningful progress towards the goal of fostering a more transparent and accessible research environment.
