Vicki Wheeler graduated from Loughborough University, School of Art and Design, in 1998 with a BA (Hons) in Printed Textile Design. She was awarded the Osborne and Little Bursary for MA study at the Royal College of Art, London and in 2000 she gained her MA in Printed Textiles. Since graduating Vicki has worked as a visiting lecturer at Winchester School of Art, the Royal College of Art and Liverpool Hope University alongside establishing a creative profile as an artist and designer. Vicki was appointed to a part-time position in August 2003 as lecturer in Printed Textiles within the School of Materials.


Vicki currently teaches onto the BSc (hons) Textile Design and Design Management programme where she is 1st year tutor and responsible for nurturing creative thinking and design awareness. Vicki also teaches fashion illustration to the Design Management for Fashion Retail students and is a design specialist for the Master of Enterprise programme. Vicki is actively involved with the visual communication of the school through the development of the Schools annual Design Show for which she is Creative Director and also enjoys pining up gigantic digitally printed banners to advertise the Schools activities. Vicki extends her contribution to the University through her engagement with the Whitworth Art Gallery (WAG) where she has been a Creative Practitioner since 2005, within this role she has facilitated a number of collaborative projects between the School of Materials and the WAG.




Examples of this work include:
Lead Artist for ‘Stories of the World’, ‘Global Threads’, A Cultural Olympiad project with Whitworth Art Gallery;  the aim of this project was to create a collection of wearable garments inspired by the textiles collection within the Gallery. The garments form a Clothing Handling Collection for the Gallery and were exhibited within the COTTON exhibition in 2012.
‘Ladder Composition’ (2008): this work was commissioned by Whitworth Art Gallery for ‘Tactile’. ‘Tactile’ is a contemporary textile makers’ handling collection resource for post -16 students.
