Specific research interests:

The relevance of the religious texts from Ras Shamra/Ugarit for the study of the Hebrew Bible, particularly the religion of Israel; the Book of Psalms; historical geography as applied to the study of the Bible.

Research Career

Doctoral research on the relevance of Ugaritic for the Psalter with special reference to divine names, epithets and attributes laid the foundation for ongoing research into (a) aspects of the possible interaction between ancient Israelite and what might be loosely termed 'Canaanite' beliefs and practices, and (b) more generally into the relevance of archaeology for the study of the Hebrew Bible.
