Global challenge: the growing cancer burden

Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally – accounting for an estimated one in six deaths in 2018 – and places tremendous physical, emotional and financial strain on individuals, families, communities and health systems.

While cancer affects every country worldwide, patient outcomes are often worse in the world's hardest-to-reach, socially and economically deprived communities where access to screening and treatment is limited.
