We offer institutionally-funded fellowships to develop our research and research community.
Institutional fellowships
Institutional fellowships are offered by each of our three Faculties. The institutional fellowships vary by faculty to meet local needs:
Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health: The Dean’s Prize Award
Two years in length, this award is aimed at researchers typically three to seven years post PhD who are looking to make a substantial external funding application in the near future.

Faculty of Humanities: Simon and Hallsworth Fellowships
Three years in length, this award is for early career researchers (up to four years’ experience post PhD). The Simon awards are for researchers in social sciences.
The Hallsworth awards are for political economics researchers.

Faculty of Science and Engineering: Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw Fellowship
Five years in length, this award is designed as a stepping stone to establishing an independent academic research career for engineers and scientists whose work relates to the Faculty of Science and Engineering priorities.
Priorities are set each year and detailed in the job description.

Future Leaders Fellowships
The UKRI scheme provides long-term support for fellows to tackle ambitious programmes or multidisciplinary questions, and new or emerging research and innovation areas and partnerships.
The application process is currently open until 26 January 2026 and you can contact fellows@manchester.ac.uk to receive an expression of interest form. Once completed, please return to the same email address.
