Prof Paul Madden - postgraduate opportunities
I am interested in supervision of PhD students whose research area has some proximity to my own current research interests in applied economic theory. The latter includes Hotelling and Salop models of spatial competition, product differentiation, industrial organization in general and the economics of professional sports leagues in particular.
I have been involved in supervision of the following recent PhD graduates:
Michal Krol (2011), "Game-theoretic modelling of oligopolistic competition under uncertainty"; Michal is now lecturing at Manchester University.
Simon Rudkin (2008), "The impact of supermarkets on prices, consumer behaviour and welfare; theoretical and empirical issues"; Simon is now lecturing at Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University, China.
Mario Pezzino (2008), "Horizontal and vertical product differentiation; market equilibrium, welfare and quality"; Mario is now lecturing at Manchester University.
Xin Liu (2007), "Essays on cross-border tax competition and Cournot intermediation"; Xin is now lecturing at Chongqing University, China.
Zhengli Gu (2006), "Economic models of predation and crime; inequality and prevention"; Zhengli is now working for the China Continent Property and Casualty Insurance Company, China.
