Academic entry qualification overview

We welcome applications from intercalating medical and dental students from The University of Manchester and other UK institutions, as well as medical and dental graduates and international medical graduates who can demonstrate relevant experience and commitment to biomedical research.

Intercalating students at Manchester are required to have satisfactory achievement in Years 1 to 3 or 4 of the MBChB course. For University of St Andrews students studying at Manchester, this includes the three-year degree and the following one or two years spent in Manchester (Years 3 and 4 of the Manchester MBChB course).

International students must have an equivalent classification to the MBChB and should refer to entry requirements from your country for further information.

English language

International students must demonstrate English proficiency through a secure and approved testing system.

We ask for English language proof if you are from non-majority English speaking countries (a list of majority English speaking countries, as defined by the UK Home Office, can be found here ).

Specifically, we require a minimum of:

  • IELTS : 6.5 overall with 6.5 in all components

English language test validity

Some English Language test results are only valid for two years. Your English Language test report must be valid on the start date of the course.

Relevant work experience

You need to be able to demonstrate relevant work experience in your chosen pathway.
