Overview
This programme unit will enable participants to properly plan and document their implant cases. These include some basic principles in implant surgery, on dental implant characteristics such as materials and surfaces, how to collect patient information, informed consent, how to take good clinical pictures, how to evaluated success and how to manage patients with a history of periodontal disease.
Aims
On completion of the programme of study, students will have acquired:
- knowledge of contemporary aspects of clinical periodontology and implantology, including an appreciation of an interdisciplinary approach to comprehensive patient care.
- appropriate practical and clinical skills relevant to clinical periodontology and implantology. Competence and confidence in a variety of transferable skills relevant to periodontology and implantology.
Assessment methods
Written assignment - essay = 35%
Skill station assessment = 30%
Case report / Case-based discussion = 35%
Feedback methods
Feedback forms will be completed by examiners for all elements of accredited assessment and students are encouraged to make an appointment with the Director via the Programme Administrator to discuss such feedback.
