Overview
This unit focuses on current problems in drug development that are being addressed with the help of modelling and simulation. Students are presented with case studies (lectures and tutorial sessions) that highlight the value of pharmacometric modelling and innovations in modelling methods. Students will conduct a literature review and critique of a focussed area of pharmacometrics, modelling and simulation and will construct a modelling project proposal which will usually provide the basis for the MSc dissertation after completion of this unit.

Aims
The unit aims to:
- expose the student to recent advances, controversies, and expectations in the application of pharmacometric modelling and simulation to drug development and related clinical problems
- give examples showing how modelling produces clinical, commercial, or population health benefits
- identify good practice in the conduct of modelling and simulation projects, from inception and preparation of a proposal to the interpretation and communication of results.
