Overview
The unit will equip students with a knowledge and understanding of the theory and use of the main analytical technologies and diagnostic platforms employed in the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory. The unit will also cover the use of internal quality control and external quality assurance, along with the role of point of care testing in laboratory medicine.
Aims
The unit aims to:
- Provide students with a knowledge of the theory and understanding of the use of the main analytical technologies and diagnostic platforms employed by clinical biochemistry and other relevant blood science disciplines (e.g. genetics and immunology).
- Equip students with the necessary foundations in the principles of analysis with an understanding of quality assurance processes and the clinical application of analytical techniques.
