We require a primary dental qualification from a recognised institution. You should also have at least two years' recent experience in general professional practice.

International students must demonstrate English proficiency through a secure and approved testing system.

We ask for English language proof if you are from non-majority English speaking countries (a list of majority English speaking countries, as defined by the UK Home Office, can be found here ).

Specifically, we require a minimum of:

• IELTS: 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in all components)

Important:

Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirements as noted above, at the time of application, will not be considered.

Overseas candidates who hold a degree from a country officially recognised as majority English-speaking are not required to provide proof of English certification.

Some English Language test results are only valid for two years. Your English Language test report must be valid on the start date of the course.

Self-funded international applicants for this course will be required to pay a deposit of £1,000 towards their tuition fees before a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) is issued. This deposit will only be refunded if immigration permission is refused. We will notify you about how and when to make this payment.

For CAS purposes, you will be asked to upload a copy of your current valid passport showing the photograph page. This must show your full name, date of birth, nationality, passport number and the date the passport is valid until, which must be later than the date of your planned arrival in the UK, and the start date of your course.

You cannot use your CAS to apply for a visa more than three months before the start date of your course, the Admissions Team will be in contact at the appropriate time.

Your CAS number is only valid for one Tier 4 application.

We consider your academic transcripts, academic references, evidence of clinical skills and knowledge developed since graduation, and evidence of your interest in fixed and removable prosthodontics when assessing applications. An interview may also be required to explore these areas.

Health clearance from the University's Occupational Health Department will be a condition of any offer.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for those candidates residing in the UK.

Overseas candidates are required to provide a Police Certificate of Good Conduct.

If you applied in the previous year and your application was not successful you may apply again. Your application will be considered against the standard course entry criteria for that year of entry. In your new application you should demonstrate how your application has improved. We may draw upon all information from your previous applications or any previous registrations at the University as a student when assessing your suitability for your chosen course.

Specialist clinical component (90 credits)

Full-time students typically undertake up to five sessions per week over 45 weeks for the clinical component of the course (2-3 sessions per week for part-time students in each of the two years).

The specialist clinical component comprises six units:

• Clinical and Technical Skills (15 credits)
• Scientific Understanding of Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics I and II (15 credits each)
• Diagnosis and Treatment Planning (15 credits) 
• Reflective Prosthodontic Practice (15 credits)
• Contemporary Prosthodontic Techniques (15 credits) 
• Research Methods and Biostatistics (15 credits each)

Dissertation (60 credits)

The dissertation provides training in identification, formulation and implementation of a specific research project.

Teaching and learning methods are designed to encourage you to take responsibility for your own learning and to integrate work with formal educational activities.

Examples of dissertations submitted include:

• An investigation to evaluate fracture resistance of fibre-reinforced crowns
• The effect of isolating solution on the attachment and retention of candidal species on denture acrylic
• A comparative assessment of dentists' perceptions of smile aesthetics in facial and dental views
• The outcomes of providing dental implants to patients with risk of osteoporosis of the mandibular bone
• A comparison of prosthodontic treatment plan prescribing provided by vocational dental practitioners and their trainees in England
