MSc Management of Projects / Course details

This unit runs in both semesters. In the first semester students will work with the University Language Centre on improving their academic practice. The skills developed in the academic practice section will be relevant to all other units and the dissertation - in particular referencing, critical thinking and academic writing will be central.

In the second semester we will focus on research methods - this is particularly important for preparing you for your dissertation. We critically discuss different research methodologies and develop your skills in analysing others' research and designing your own. Quantitative and qualitative data collection and data analysis approaches will be covered.

Develop students' ability to conduct a research assignment related to project management and to prepare students to carry out the dissertation component of the programme successfully.

The unit introduces the principles of research design and illustrates the application of alternative research methods to research problems related to project management.
Key aspects of carrying out a literature review are covered, including: searching for and selecting relevant literature; summarising findings and how such findings are evidenced; writing a coherent and well-structured review; critically engaging with others' work; synthesising findings from the review and applying these to one's own project.

Students receive feedback on their written report through Blackboard.
