Overview

An MSc in Business Analytics and AI’s dissertation is a piece of original scholarship work written under the direction of a supervisor. An MSc in Business Analytics and AI’s dissertation provides students with the opportunity to develop a critical understanding of relevant literature and to apply the skills and knowledge gained from the overall MSc in Business Analytics and AI programme to investigate a specific research problem/question. The dissertation process requires the students to review existing literature, identify a research problem/question, develop a conceptual framework for investigation and research hypotheses (propositions), apply appropriate quantitative research methods and rigorous analytical techniques, synthesise and evaluate the study findings, and design a clear statement of conclusions and recommendations.

Aims

An MSc in Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence’s dissertation is a piece of original scholarship work written under the direction of a supervisor. The dissertation process requires students to review existing literature, identify a research problem/question, develop an appropriate research design, apply quantitative or contemporary data analytics research methods and rigorous analytical techniques, synthesise and evaluate the study findings, and present a clear statement of conclusions and recommendations.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures= 10 hours
Supervision= 6 hours 
Independent study = 584 hours.
This course will consist of lectures, seminars/ workshops.
In the lectures, students learn various techniques required for their dissertation, such as conducting literature review, and formulating a research question.

During their independent learning time, students are expected to apply the data analytics methods learned in the programme to their project case, with feedback from their project supervisor.

Students are also expected to apply academic theories and approaches to their individual research during the independent learning time.

Critically evaluate and synthesize up-to-date literature to establish the theoretical framework and rationale for the research.

Develop a concrete research design to investigate the research problem.

Apply business analytics and AI approaches to the business problems.

Identify a research problem, formulate research questions and refine objectives related to the research under investigation.

Present complex arguments and ideas.

Practical skills

Organise, structure, and present an independent piece of scholarly research.

Select and apply appropriate quantitative and Contemporary research methodologies to design and conduct an independent piece of research.

Apply rigorous analytical techniques to analyse and synthesise the study findings.
