Overview

Topics include the impact of the work environment on human performance and well-being; human-machine interaction and equipment design; human error; organisational safety culture; occupational stress and its management; and the ageing workforce.

Aims

The course aims to provide students with a firm conceptual foundation in key theoretical perspectives on the relationship between the individual and his/her work environment, and to develop an understanding of their application.

Learning outcomes

Understand key theoretical approaches in Organisational Psychology;

Apply psychological theory in organisational settings;

Demonstrate practical skills in literature search, written presentation, and practical project work.

Assessment methods

Group presentation and written summary (25% weighting);

Written examination (75% weighting)

Informal advice and discussion during a lecture, seminar, workshop or lab.

Responses to student emails and questions from a member of staff, including answers to student queries provided via an online discussion forum.

Written and/or verbal comments on assessed or non-assessed coursework.

Generic feedback posted on Blackboard regarding overall assignment and examination performance.
