The unit focuses on principles of leadership in the healthcare context.
Aims
This unit aims to:
- Give students an overview of theory and insight to the core principles of leadership.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
Knowledge and understanding
- Explore inter-professional learning relevant to healtcare.
- Reflect on their traits relevant to leadership style.
- Explore different leadership styles.
- Recognise what motivates you.
- Describe three key motivational theories (Maslow, Herzberg and expectancy theories).
- Evaluate methods how to manage stress.
- Discuss different conflict resolution styles (Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument) and identify your go-to style.
Transferable skills and personal qualities
- Develop reflective skills.
- Develop team-working skills.
- Develop communication skills.

Teaching and learning methods
Inter-professional workshop and tutorials will form the basis of these sessions; these will be supported by group work/discussions and self-learning.

- Reflection (1000 words, 100%)
Feedback methods
Students will be given verbal feedback following their participation in group activities and class discussion.
Students will get written feedback on their reflection.
