Government support for living costs is available to English domiciled undergraduate students in the form of the maintenance loan. To get an idea of the cost of living in Manchester, read our information on living costs in the city.
The amount of support that you receive is dependent on an assessment of your level of household income by Student Finance England. Students who are residents in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland apply for student finance via the relevant student finance agency. There is further information for students from these countries, along with students from Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man on the gov.uk student finance page.
Students can access repayable living support from the government. The amount of loan will vary depending on whether you live away from home, live at home with your parents or study at a university in London. The maximum amount of maintenance loan is available for households with an income of £25,000 or less.
The UK government have yet to confirm the maintenance loan levels for 2024 entry. Once the University has received this update, the information will appear here. The tables below show the amount available to students starting University in September 2023.
