We are committed to connecting our communities and offering opportunities for new learning, whether that’s on campus, hybrid or online.
To achieve this, we need to offer teaching and learning spaces that support our approach.
Booth Street East – our innovative learning space
Central to our strategy is our renovated Booth Street East building, which comes equipped with a range of spaces and facilities that deliver on our commitment to boost learning.

Changing the ways we learn
Lifelong Learning is our focus, and we are working with our students, businesses and partners to make Manchester a Learning Partner for Life.
How is learning at Manchester changing?
- Delivering short course pilots, including micro-credentials and professional development courses.
- Supporting the delivery of the Greater Manchester skills agenda by building digital skills with businesses.
- Developing and managing strategic partnerships for the delivery of lifelong learning.
Our portfolio addresses the skills needs of our communities. We co-design our professional education courses with our industry partners and have developed a set of principles to guide the development of micro-credentials at the University.
New short online courses
Our pathfinder courses are co-designed in partnership with industry. These are short online continuing professional education courses, focussed on upskilling.
Who are we working with?
We will be delivering:
- a course on ‘problem solving in the age of genAI’, designed in collaboration with AstraZeneca.
- a course on digital sustainability, designed in collaboration with Fujitsu.
Enabling our communities to excel digitally
In a society increasingly reliant on technology, digital skills are vital for us all to thrive, and supporting development in digital skills and capabilities is essential to meet these demands.
What are we doing to develop digital skills?
- Promoting digital equity: our Digital Equity Charter is an important step in our continuing journey towards ensuring that all students can access the support and opportunities they need.
- Enabling self-assessment and institutional benchmarking: the Jisc Discovery tool allows our community to explore their digital development. By self-assessing their digital capabilities and reflecting on their experience and confidence, the tool supports us to identify strengths and areas for development. Watch the video below to discover how students can use the Discovery tool:
- Enhancing and providing recognition of digital development: our community can benefit from access to thousands of flexible courses covering a range of digital and professional skills to help with employability and career goals on LinkedIn Learning.
- Piloting Microsoft Certifications for students: providing them with access to guided online training and practise assessments to help them attain industry-recognised qualifications.
- Facilitating peer support: with the Students’ Union, we have introduced a Digital Capability Student Rep role. The Library hosts Digital Skills Cafés for students, while staff can access a range of workshops led by the University’s Microsoft 365 Champions.
