Disability Advisory and Support Service

Our Disability Advisory and Support Service offers advice and provides support to disabled applicants throughout the job application process into a successful career at the University.

Adjustments to interview

Access to Work offers advice to employers and helps with extra costs that may arise because of your work or interview needs. This can include:

  • funding for a support worker;
  • equipment you need at work;
  • adapting premises to meet your needs;
  • contribute towards the cost of getting to work if you cannot use public transport.

Access to Work will often fund communication support at interview, for example for BSL users.

If you feel that you need adjustments during the interview process, or any associated assessments, contact us to discuss your options.

Successful applicants

You may choose to share with us that you are disabled when you accept your job, by ticking the relevant box on your monitoring form. However, as this information is confidential and used for monitoring only, this will not usually prompt a discussion about adjustments that you might need.

The easiest way to share that you have a disability is to complete the support questionnaire (included in your job contract pack) before starting your job, we can then look at adjustments prior to your start date. This questionnaire is returned directly to one of our staff disability advisers, who will then contact you to discuss your requirements.

If you would prefer to contact the staff disability adviser directly prior to your job start, contact us and we can look at your requirements.
