Making a difference nationally
Our staff and alumni are making a difference to the leadership and direction of hundreds of state schools across the region and other parts of the UK through our School Governor Initiative.
Our success
- 1,000 staff and alumni
- 450,000 learners supported
- £6 million of economic value
The University’s School Governor Initiative is a pioneering programme to engage University staff and alumni in making a difference to the leadership across hundreds of state schools.
By combining the efforts of staff and our extensive alumni we have supported state schools with more new governors than any other UK employer.
Leadership and governance need to be outstanding in order for a school to be rated as outstanding by Ofsted. Having governors with the appropriate skills and commitment is therefore crucial. As part of Manchester’s widening participation work to improve outcomes for young people in disadvantaged areas, the School Governor Initiative makes a significant contribution.
The initiative helps provide leadership for local and national schools by matching up our staff and our alumni using their skills and expertise to help support those different schools.
