Students’ Union and societies

The University of Manchester’s Students’ Union (SU) is run by students, for students. The biggest students’ union in the UK, it will provide you with the space, resources and support you need to make the most of your time at university.

You can find out more below, or visit Manchester’s Students’ Union website.

Clubs and societies

There’s an activity to suit everyone at your Students’ Union. Clubs and societies give students the opportunity to meet people, try something new or develop existing interests and hobbies.

With over 400 societies on offer and everything from knitting to scuba diving, you’re sure to find the right fit. You can even try them out before you commit with the SU’s ‘Give it a go’ programme. And if you’ve got an idea for a group that doesn’t exist yet, you can get help to create your own.

Volunteering and leadership

There are loads of volunteering opportunities available through the Students’ Union, including mentoring young people and working with homeless individuals. If fundraising is your thing, you can get involved with Manchester RAG, while for creatives there’s Manchester’s student-led media outlets, which are some of the best in the country.

Students’ Union activities can form part of your Stellify journey at Manchester, giving you the chance to step up to roles of responsibility that can boost your personal and professional development.

Advice

The Students’ Union Advice Service is on hand to help with any personal, academic, financial or accommodation issues. The service is free to access, confidential and run by professional advisers who are independent of the University.

The Academy

Manchester Academy is one of the UK’s most iconic music venues. Over the years, it has welcomed acclaimed artists including Kylie, Alt-J, Rita Ora and Foo Fighters.

Eat, drink, shop

Enjoy a freshly brewed coffee in Corridor, grab some grub from one of our food huts, or relax over a pizza and pitcher in the 532 Bar + Kitchen. The Students’ Union is a charity, so every penny you spend there is reinvested into developing and improving services for students.

Be a Change-maker

The Students’ Union exists to represent your views and best interests, and to ensure that your voice is heard during your time at The University of Manchester.

Support your course mates by becoming an academic rep; campaign for a cause that matters to you; or simply have your say with a ‘SUggestion’ – the SU supports it all.
