Become more employable

At Manchester, you will gain the unique experiences and opportunities that help you stand out from the crowd and become more desirable to future employers.

Be curious

Most targeted UK university

We are the most targeted UK university by employers in the The Graduate Market, 2023.

Be curious about what jobs, employers, and careers are out there.

Our Careers Service can get you started right now with access to our extensive web resources, including help with deciding which careers are for you, job hunting and specific online information for postgraduates and international students.

If you study with us (or are one of our recent graduates), you also benefit from access to our advertised vacancies, exclusive employer and alumni events and one-to-one support.

Tailored careers support

Our Careers Service's extensive support includes online and interactive resources and one-to-one personalised appointments, such as:

  • Practice interviews – available 24/7 through our video interview platform, or book a tailored one-to-one interview simulation with an experienced careers consultant.
  • CV and application support – our online CV and cover letter feedback platform application helps hone your CV until it’s ready to be shown to an employer.
  • Careers meetings – our consultants can help you consider your options, support you in your postgraduate research applications and uncover specialist job sites to advance your career.

Be connected

We can help you learn effective ways to engage with employers, with online resources and in-person support for applications and interviews.

Just as importantly, the connections you make during your master’s could be your route to your next job – or to a lifelong friendship. As well as connecting with employers and alumni, developing strong supportive networks with your fellow students will help give you the courage to push yourself and bounce back if you hit setbacks.

Be courageous

We’re here to help you take that next step out of your comfort zone and you'll have access to extensive activities at Manchester that you can add to your CV.

We’ll work hard to source the opportunities, set up the events, and communicate with you by email or social media.

Plan your next steps

You can research the recruitment year and have a plan before you start your master’s, whether you want to progress to postgraduate research, a particular career or want to stand out more generally, we'll help you make your plans a reality.

Many major UK employers recruit once a year in September and October. If these are your preferred employers, we encourage you to get your career ideas and applications ready before you start your course.

After you graduate

After you graduate with your master’s from Manchester, you may choose to begin your career or to continue with postgraduate research.

Whichever path you choose, we'll help you prepare for your next step and stand out from the competition – just one of the reasons why we're the most targeted university by the nation's top graduate employers (The Graduate Market in 2023, High Fliers Research).

Don't forget to keep in touch so you can make use of our alumni services and perhaps help future undergraduates by giving your time and expertise.

Alumni

Master’s students can make use of our alumni services and the alumni network after graduation, forming a lifelong relationship with the University and alumni community.

There are dozens of ways to stay connected with the University and your peers – wherever you are in the world, be part of our global network.

You'll have opportunities to connect with fellow alumni socially; stay up to date on ground-breaking research and Manchester’s global impact; continue to develop your CV through new learning opportunities and career-focused initiatives. You will even be invited to make a difference in the lives of current students through a variety of volunteering opportunities.
