Academic entry qualification overview

The standard academic entry requirement for this Master's course is a Second Class (2:1) UK honours degree or international equivalent, in a relevant science or engineering discipline.  In some cases we will accept a Second Class (2:2) honours degree where candidates have previous relevant industrial experience demonstrated by an up-to-date CV.

English language

All applicants will need to demonstrate competency in the English language. Applicants who do not already possess a recognised English Language qualification will need to take a recognised test such as IELTS or Pearson and attain the required English Language score:

IELTS: at least a score of 6.5 overall with three sub-tests at 6.0 or above and no sub-test less than 5.5

TOFEL (IBT): at least a score of 90 overall with no sub-test less than 22

Pearson PTE: at least a score of 58 overall with no sub-test less than 50

Pre-sessional English: We also accept successful completion of the 10 week pre-sessional English course run by the University Language Centre to meet our English language requirements. The department requirement for the 10 week course is a valid IELTS score of at least 5.5 overall with no sub-test below 5.5.

Please note we do not accept the 6 or 3 week pre-sessional courses to meet our English requirements.

English language test validity

Some English Language test results are only valid for two years. Your English Language test report must be valid on the start date of the course.
