The Thermal Power and Fluid Engineering MSc is a highly successful course which has been offered here for almost forty years. The aim of this postgraduate course is to train and educate thermofluid engineers to enable them to meet present and future demands of the industry and to equip them with the necessary skills to engage in employment or further research.

The course is suitable for engineering/science graduates and professionals who not only wish to enhance their expertise in thermofluids but also to develop their competence in the use of state-of-the-art analytical, computational and experimental methods; advanced methods which are specifically designed for the analysis of heat and fluid flow in both industrial and research applications.

The objectives of this course are to produce postgraduate specialists with:

  • advanced understanding of heat and fluid flow processes and their role in modern methods of power generation
  • in-depth understanding of numerical and experimental techniques in heat and fluid flow

Teaching on the course is delivered by academics from our world-leading research group in the field of turbulence modelling and heat transfer.

Manchester Engineering Campus Development (MECD), the University of Manchester's  new £400m purpose built home for engineering and material science , is nearing completion. The physical move to the new development is scheduled to take place between January 2022 and December 2022. Whilst it is anticipated that access to equipment, or work on projects for which such access is required may be limited during the period of the move, plans are underway to ensure that any disruption caused is minimised, a wide selection of dissertation projects will continue to be available, and excellent student experience remains pivotal. If you have any questions about how the move may affect you, please contact  pg-mace@manchester.ac.uk

Open days

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, we have suspended all on-campus open days until further notice. However, please do take a look at the information and recordings from our most recent Virtual Open Week  to find out more about The University and our courses.

We would also encourage you to have a look at our department's virtual tour or to get in touch with us if you have questions about our MSc courses.

Fees

For entry in the academic year beginning September 2023, the tuition fees are as follows:

  • MSc (full-time)
    UK students (per annum): £12,500

All students should normally be able to complete their programme of study without incurring additional study costs over and above the tuition fee for that programme. Any unavoidable additional compulsory costs totalling more than 1% of the annual home undergraduate fee per annum, regardless of whether the programme in question is undergraduate or postgraduate taught, will be made clear to you at the point of application. Further information can be found in the University's Policy on additional costs incurred by students on undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes (PDF document, 91KB).

Scholarships/sponsorships

We offer a number of postgraduate taught scholarships and awards to outstanding UK and international students each year.

The University of Manchester is committed to widening participation in master's study, and allocates £300,000 in funding each year. Our  Manchester Master's Bursaries  are aimed at widening access to master's courses by removing barriers to postgraduate education for students from underrepresented groups.
