Best places for food and drink

Amani, Mia and Seb show us their top venues for student budgets: 

  • Student’s Union: a lively hub with cheap pints and pool.
  • Kro Bar: serves drinks and food daily.
  • Big Hands: live music venue offering drinks and a rooftop terrace. 
  • Turing Tap: a go-to spot for affordable drinks and watching sports.

All you need, here on campus

Whether you want a coffee to kickstart your day, a place to meet friends, or somewhere to buy essentials, everything you need is available on campus or nearby:

  • Cafes and coffee spots: enjoy plenty of affordable places across campus – to meet friends or catch up on studying.  
  • Restaurants and food courts: sample a range of budget-friendly restaurants across campus. 
  • Bookshops: find your course and reading materials at our on-campus bookshop, Blackwell’s.  
  • Supermarkets: you’ll have access to small, convenient options like Co-op and Sainsbury’s Local on campus.   
  • Sustainable shops: check out the ethical food shop, student-run ‘Want Not Waste’, and Oxfam for sustainable shopping.

Cost of living

The University has lots of student initiatives, deals and discounts to help you make the most of your money while studying, including:

  • Get 20% off campus food with the Food In Advance scheme - just load your student card and let your guardians top it up too!;
  • cosy campus spaces available across campus with free hot water, washing facilities, microwaves and chill areas for you to catch up with friends;
  • have community fridges with free lunches.
