How do I appeal?
If you think one of your grades is incorrect when you receive your results, speak to your school or college in the first instance.
Exam boards are not able to consider appeals that are based on differences of opinion. An appeal is only successful if either an error is found, or the grade awarded/selection of evidence is found to be an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement.
If you have grounds for appeal, you should consider carefully if this is the right course of action for you. On appeal, grades can go up, down, or stay the same. The exam board’s decision will be final so if your grade is lowered, you’ll not be able to revert back to your original grade.
What's the appeals process in the UK?

The University of Manchester appeal form
If you are an offer holder and choose to appeal, you are required to complete an online form to notify us of this.
Once submitted, you will receive an email confirmation that we have received your appeal information. We will only take submission of the form as official notification that you are appealing so you do not need to contact us via email or phone to inform us.
Once you have received the appeal outcome, you should notify the admissions team in the relevant academic School/Department as soon as possible.
What happens after I appeal?
Where possible we will follow UCAS guidance which states 4 September as the cut-off point for meeting the conditions of your offer unless your offer conditions state an early deadline, in which case this date stands. Therefore, if:
- You meet the conditions of your offer before 4 September or the date stated in your offer, you'll be accepted for the year of entry that you applied for where possible.
- We can't offer you a place for the year of entry that you applied for, we may make you a deferred offer or offer admission to another course.
- You receive an appeal outcome after 4 September or the date stated in your offer, you should contact your admissions team as soon as possible. The team will decide whether they can offer you a place. If we can't offer you the year of entry that you applied for, we may make you a deferred offer for the following year’s entry or admission to another course.
You'll be able to find your deadline in the conditions of your offer in your UCAS application. If we make you an offer for deferred entry in the following year, you'll need to re-take the medical fitness assessment and DBS check for courses, where these apply.
