Aims

  • provide specialist knowledge in the design of medicines
  • consider the basis of specific diseases and their treatment

 

 

Teaching and learning methods

Subunits (1) and (2) are structured around a core of 16h of lectures, together with support materials and activities delivered online by Blackboard. Subunit (3) is delivered as mainly self-directed e-learning, with podcasts and group work.

 

Knowledge and understanding

Demonstrate how the advanced approaches in medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences can be used for the design, development and clinical applications of effective medicines and diagnostic tools in various disease areas.

Intellectual skills

Relate specialist knowledge and skills gained in basic science disciplines to a range of challenging clinical problems by integrating drug discovery concepts to a specific application and/or disease area.

Transferable skills and personal qualities

Develop critical evaluation skills by application of principles to specific problems in medicinal chemistry.
