Overview
The workshop practice covers health and safety training, turning, milling, welding and a fabrication and fitting exercise.
Due to timetable constraints the module is run over years 1 and 2 as MACE10020 and MACE20020 respectively. The students have to complete 4 exercises and 8 hours of workshop practice over the 2 years.
Led by training learning instructors and workshop technicians the students receive training on workshop practice and then manufacture selected products as well as use metrology equipment to assess the manufactured parts

Aims
To introduce students to hands-on workshop practice on the use of machine tools, welding equipment and joining methods as well as the use of metrology equipment in the assessment of manufactured products.

• Benchtop working (filing, drilling, tapping)
• Milling
• Turning
• Welding
