Overview
For this 10 credit unit, a student must describe the project in the form of a poster which will be shown as part of a poster session in May, 2020. Two markers will question the student about the project and also view the poster. They will produce a joint assessment based both on poster quality and the oral performance.
Aims
- Develop students’ communication skills via the preparation of a poster and in responding orally to questions on their projects.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of CHEN40122, a student will be able to… (1) To prepare a poster according to guidelines (A0 portrait size). (2) To present the work in the form of poster. (3) To present work in a logical and visually effective manner. (4) To tackle the questions posed by the markers on the poster and the project. (5) To communicate the work and its outcomes in a poster. (6) To to defend own work with confidence.
Teaching and learning methods
The dissertation project will entail a combination of lectures (e.g. on library skills), meetings with the supervisor, self-directed learning and hands-on practical experience.
The poster will be assessed by two academic staff members in a joint 25 minute Q&A session. The poster will be assessed on its quality and on the student’s ability to discuss the work described in it.
These two elements will count for 10 credits.
